The maps are also bigger, adding a lot more variety to your travels around the island. For example, unlike the first version of Zoo Tycoon where a marine biologist was always needed for research projects, the second game introduces a new character, a marine biologist yourself, who needs to complete research projects to unlock more options and power ups for the game. Zoo Tycoon: Marine Mania expands on the success of the first game in many ways. This second game is a very comprehensive version of the original, and players are still able to build and run zoos, even though they now have an overgrown jungle area to deal with. It was later followed up by two additional expansion packs, Zoo Tycoon: Land of the Seafood and Zoo Tycoon: Aquatic Zone, that were released within the same year, and a follow-up, Zoo Tycoon: Protector of Wildlife, was released in the summer of 2021. Following up on the huge success of the first game, this second game puts the player in charge of managing an ocean zoo, following a chain of events that begin with you building your zoo, then finding animals to put inside, and completing biological programs and decorating the area. Zoo Tycoon: Marine Mania is the sequel to the successful Zoo tycoon game from the same company, Zoo Tycoon.
